Turbidity is mainly understood as the cleanliness of the transparent medium, which refers to the suspension or uniform dispersion of tiny insoluble particulate matter in the transparent medium. The scattering and absorption of the incident light by the suspended matter results in the attenuation of the light. Turbidity is usually expressed by measuring changes in parameters such as the intensity of scattered light and the intensity of transmitted light. It is an optical effect expressed as the degree to which light is hindered from passing through a layer of water.
The turbidity calibration adopts the standard solution prepared by formazin, 1L of water contains 1mg of this substance, and the measurement result obtained by the principle of scattered light is called 1NTU (also called FNU). Turbidity is a physical quantity that characterizes an optical phenomenon and does not fully represent the actual concentration of suspended particulate matter. Because different particle sizes have an effect on turbidity, the same turbidity value does not represent the same particle concentration.
